Vacation in Pigeon Forge to Celebrate Summer at Dollywood

Nothing says summer like an amusement park and Dollywood is pulling out all the stops to make this a Great American Summer, which runs from June 13 to August 2.

Choose one of the many conveniently located Pigeon Forge cabins by Heartland Rentals so that you can start the day early at Dollywood. The Great American Summer day begins at 10 a.m. with a rousing live rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner.” The right mood having been established, it’s nothing but summer fun all day long!

If the music that starts the day makes you want even more, head on over to one of the many music venues throughout the park, like the Smoky Mountain String Band on Showstreet, Country Crossroads in Craftsmans Valley or the Gem Tones in Jukebox Junction.

Folks who are ready for a thrill will want to zip straight to one of Dollywood’s adrenaline pumping roller coasters. Experience a summer storm on the Thunderhead, get all twisted up in the Mystery Mine, and soar over the Smokies on the Wild Eagle, where riders feel like they’re flying with nothing between them and the ground.

Once you’ve flown like an eagle on a coaster, glide over to the Eagle Mountain Sanctuary to admire the large presentation of bald eagles, America’s bird. These non-releasable bald eagles are truly impressive, and you can experience them up close and personal to see just how awesome they are.

By this point you’ll be ready for a cool-down, so go get a little wet at the River Battle in Wilderness Pass. Ok, you’ll probably get a lot wet, but it’ll be refreshing. Speaking of refreshing, you should ride the Lemon Twist over in the Country Fair for some good old-fashioned ride fun.

You can wind down your day in a classic summer way on the Rockin’ Roadway in Jukebox Junction. Cruise around with the top down as you listen to some tunes on the radio.

After the sun goes down, the Great American Summer days ends with a bang. You’ll hear a lot of bangs, actually, at the nightly 9:30 p.m. fireworks display, Dolly’s Nights of Many Colors.

There’s plenty of Great American Summer fun to last, so you’ll want to turn your Dollywood visit into multiple days. Your cabin can be close enough to do it all again the next day.
